Peace? In the Middle East?

Interesting ideas about what it will take to achieve peace in the Middle East here.

Here is a story that illustrates that despite the Mercedes Benz cars on the road and the satellite dishes on the roofs, what a backward, brutal medieval society most of the Middle East truly is. The ultimate irony is, when the oil runs out (and it’s running fast – Saudi production falling 8% last year) Peak Oil will eventually end the problem for the West. Once the oil is gone, the people who live there will go back to riding camels to kill each other.

There won’t be any reason to let them come to the West. They have nothing else of value. There are days when that day (for your editor’s taste) can’t come quickly enough.

The Fallacy of the Bleedout

The United States is in a tough place. We invaded a sovereign country for oil, and it’s not going so well. As this from the Atlantic Free Press points out, there were no terrorists in Iraq before the war. Sure, there are many there now, but most of those probably weren’t terrorists before the war. Our actions have undoubtedly created many more terrorists than we’ve killed.Anyone who doubts we’re in Iraq for any reason other than oil just isn’t paying attention. As for the assertion that "we’re fighting them there so we don’t have to fight them here" is looking at the world through a pair of spectacles better suited for the 19th Century. There’s no front line that the terrorists have to pass to get to the U.S. All they have to do is get on a commercial flight, or if they are on a terrorist watch list, travel to Mexico or Canada and walk across the border. Our fighting them in Iraq and Afghanistan isn’t keeping them away from our homeland. They are most definitely coming for us here, in part because of our troops’ presence in the Middle East, not despite it.

Iran Plays Down War Fears

Showing once again that Iran really doesn’t understand how serious the West is about them not having nuclear weapons, they’re talking like they’re not terribly concerned about war with the Unite States. They should be. Americans are.

Iran’s foreign minister played down the possibility of U.S. military action against its nuclear facilities, saying Saturday that the United States is in no position to impose another crisis on the region or its own citizens. From Washington, VOA’s Margaret Besheer reports, the Iranian comments follow remarks U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney made about options for dealing with Iran’s unwillingness to halt its nuclear activities.

An Arab Defends ’24′

Islam-2
Writing for WSJ.com’s Opinion Journal, Emilio Karim Dabul writes in defense of the Fox Television show 24.

Most of the terrorists represented in “24″ through the years have been Arab Muslims. Why? Well, probably because most terrorists today are, in fact, Arab Muslims.

And the obvious point that many miss:

And this is what makes “24″ a compelling drama every week. Instead of pretending Islamic terrorists don’t exist, the show presents frighteningly real worst-case scenarios perpetrated by Osama bin Laden’s followers. So CAIR thinks it’s over the top for the terrorists in “24″ to blow up Los Angeles with a nuke? Please, if bin Laden and his crew had nukes, most of us would be way too dead to argue over such points.

They Want Your Children

Islam-1
From the man who developed the emergency response team for the Oklahoma City Police Department…

What’s happening with our military on foreign countries will happen here. It’s coming like a freight train. … And one of the things they want is your children.

The problem the Islamist Terrorists are confronting here (though I don’t think they realize it) is that there will be a tipping point beyond which the American public simply won’t sit still for anything but the annihilation of any of every nation even remotely supporting the targeting of American children. So far, the Islamic terrorism movement has somewhat wisely, with the exception of 9/11, stayed away from the U.S., and focused on U.S. interests. There’s a difference. If the American people feel pushed into a corner on our own soil, the result will be savage and unmerciful.

That day should never come.

The Good News About Nuclear Destruction

From World Net Daily.

Sure, not everyone’s going to perish in a nuclear terrorist attack. In fact, I think most people will be shocked at first by how little destruction there is when they find out the blast was nuclear (God forbid it ever really happens). I get the feeling that most people believe a nuclear detonation, no matter what size, consumes everything, and it’s the end of the world. Far from it. Nuclear and Atomic weapons are just bigger, more powerful bombs, much like conventional explosives, albeit with the added danger of radioactive fallout. Oh yea, sure, they’re MUCH more powerful than conventional munitions in a package the same size, but they’re not world-destroying superweapons.

Sleeper Cells in the U.S.

IslamDavid Gaubatz’s subject is Islamic Terrorism. He knows his subject.

There is every reason to suspect that we will endure suicide missions by Islamist sleeper cells. They are already in place. They are waiting for the right time. I know this from experience.
